Georgetown History

Lives Here

Our Mission

To explore, preserve and celebrate the history and cultural landscape of the town of Georgetown, Maine

Georgetown Historical Society was founded in 1975, as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization incorporated in the State of Maine.

About half our members are families that live in Maine and half are from Georgetown's diaspora scattered throughout the United States with a concentration in New England.

GHS operates with about 75 volunteer members engaged in the management and presentation of our activities.

GHS library and museum – and its growing collection of documents, books, maps, photographs, and artifacts – are housed in our permanent headquarters, the GHS Center for History and Culture located at 20 Bay Point Road in Georgetown.

The headquarters is staffed and open to the public once a week in winter and three days a week in summer, or upon request. The GHS community and educational programs are held at the center.
