John Norton Swift, born 1950 in New York City, New York, is a college professor.  Attending schools in Madison, Connecticut and Khuzestan, Iran, he obtained his B.A at Middlebury College and his M.A and Ph.D. at the University of Virginia.  From the 1980s to the present (2007), he has been a Professor of English Literature at Occidental College in Los Angeles, California.  With his family he lives in Whittier, California and maintains a seasonal home at Bay Point, Georgetown, Maine.

He was married to Leslie Elizabeth Santee in 1971 at Albany, New York.  They were divorced in 1977.  John Norton Swift and Leslie Elizabeth Santee had the following children:
