TWELFTH GENERATION

Katharine Garcelon Swift, born 1949 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is a sociologist and educator.  As a child she lived in North Bergen, New Jersey; Madison, Connecticut; Schenectady, New York; and Khuzestan, Iran.  She attended Connecticut College and also the University of Maryland where she received a B.A and M.S. in sociology.   Her husband retired from the U.S. Coast Guard as a Captain in 1999 in Massachusetts and she spent ten years as a tenured member of the faculty at North Shore Community College, Essex County, Massachusetts. She has retired from that role. She lives in Ipswich, Massachusetts and has a seasonal home in Bay Point, Georgetown, Maine.

She was married to Ensign Robert Carl Gravino, USCG, in 1969 at Bainbridge, Maryland.
